The street was known originally as South 2nd Street, and it was renamed Occidental Avenue South.

The Watson Squire Building was located on what was called originally South Second Street, which later became Occidental Avenue South.

Demolished; the Watson Squire Building perished in the Great Seattle Fire of 06/06/1889.
