During 2010-2011, sixteen raves held in this building, known as the Citadel, attracted many teens and young adults who, in some cases, vandalized and vomited in the neighborhood. The thumping base of electronic music kept neighbors awake late into the morning and the sale of MDMA, ecstasy, a staple of raves for years, also caught the attention of the police. The Seattle Police pressured property owner Steven Rauf to curtail the illegal activity or face drastic legal and financial consequences. (See Sara Jean Green, "Police target S. Seattle rave site," Seattle Times, 04/08/2011, B1, B4.)
