In 2001, private citizens lobbied the City of Antioch to purchase and renovate the El Campanil Theatre. A non-profit foundation, the El Campanil Theatre Preservation Foundation, was formed in 07/2002 to carry out this remodeling effort which was part of larger urban renewal plan in Antioch. A revived El Campanil opened for patrons again on 07/04/2004.
