This small Art Deco office building was built for the movie producers Louis B. Mayer and Irving Thalberg. The Motion Picture Producers Association (the period's censorship board) and Central Casting were prime tenants when the building opened on 12/08/1928.
The Northridge Earthquake of 01/17/1994 caused significant damage to the Hollywood and Western Building.
