The real estate and life insurance magnate Frederick Hastings Rindge (1857—1905) and his wife Rhoda May Knight Rindge (1864—1941) lived in the residence. Born in Cambridge, MA, Rindge made his way to Los Angeles, CA, in 1887, and used money from an inheritance to buy the 13,316-acre Rancho Topanga Malibu Sequit in 1892. He and Rhoda were married in 1887, and had three children.
