Hometown architect Pietro Belluschi (1899-1994) completed this headquarters for the Oregonian Publishing Company in 1948. Belluschi would leave Portland and merge his practice into a Portland Office of Skidmore Owings and Merrill in 1950, when he took the job as Dean of the Architecture School at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
