A.M. Cannon operated a general store in a wooden building owned by businessman James N. Glover; in his store, operated with his brother, Cannon opened a bank in 1878, what came to be known as the Bank of Spokane Falls. During the 1880s, it was one of two large banks in Spokane, the other started by Glover, F. Rockwood Moore and Horace Cutter, the 1st National Bank of Spokane. The Bank of Spokane Falls went broke during the Financial Panic of 1893 as did two others of the seven in town.

The bank portion of the store opened in 1878.
