The Catholic charity, Catholic Community Services (CCS), planned to tear down an existing two-story residential building (used in 2010 as the Avanti Children's Center) to build an 18-unit transitional housing space for homeless veterans who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. CCS, previously called the Archdiocesan Housing Authority, had bought the 7,200-square-foot property at 1307 East Spring Street in 2002 for $320,000.
