The Women's Home Missionary Society of the Southern California Conference of the Methodist Church converted this Hewitt Street House into the first, five-bed Methodist Hospital of Southern California in 1903. In c. 1909, the hospital moved to another, larger residence at 2826 South Hope Street , formerly the house (c. 1900) of Henry T. Hazard (1844-1921), Mayor of Los Angeles between 1889-1892.
