Building History

The 3-bedroom, 1 and 3/4-bath Patashnik House was a rare single-family residential commission done by Seattle architect Edward Cushman (1918-12006). Cushman never had a large practice, and worked in various capacities for other firms. Its rectilinear, one-story form generally resembled Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Edith Farnsworth House, Plano, IL (1951). Max (1915-1986) and Edith Cohen Patashnik (1923-2006) married In Seattle, WA, on 06/16/1946 and commissioned Cushman to build the house for them and their young children.

Edith remained in the house until c. 2005, when she and her family sold it for $380,000 to Kuoyang and Akiko Huang. They sold it on 09/06/2011 to current owners Brian Ellefson and Janine Crumb.

Building Notes

Set on a 16,904-square-foot lot in the Lake Park Heights Addition, the King County Assessor records indicated that the house dated from 1958. The dwelling backed up to a wooded area which could be seen from the extensively glazed, rear living room. A carport faced directly off of 72nd Avenue NE. In 2010, the house was listed for sale for $399,000; its assessed value two years later was $315,000.
