A.C. Martin and Associates designed the May Company's Wilshire Boulevard Department Store with the Chicago architect, Samuel Marx, whose third wife was Florene May Marx, an heiress to the family's department store fortune.

Rather than demolishing it, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art took over its western neighbor for use as an annex.
