In 1988, Taisei Construction Corporation moved its base of operations to East Ocean Boulevard in Long Beach to maintain close touch with this large building project, consisting of a 1400-car garage and a 16-story Sheraton Hotel. The Los Angeles Tall Buildings Structural Design Council, a non-profit group of engineers, government officials, and others, bestowed its Outstanding Structural Design Award on the Shoreline Square complex in 1989.
