In 1972, Sur La Table founded its first kitchenwares store at this one-story location just to the east of the Pike Place Market, at around 80 Stewart Street. Due to the imminent construction of the Stewart House Apartments, Sur La Table moved south across the street to 84 Pine Street in 1980. It initially focused on importing hard-to-find, French, cooking utensils. BY 2010, Sur La Table had become a nation-wide chain, with 75 stores across the US in 2010.
This small, one-story store was notable for its sign, a series of large, stenciled letters in red.
Demolished; in 2010, portions of the senior housing project, Stewart House, occupied the lot where the first Sur La Table Store operated.
