The noted photographer, Asahel Curtis, occupied this dwelling with his wife, Florence Carney Curtis. Curtis was born in La Seur, MN, on 11/05/1874, the son of Johnson Asahel and Ellen (Sherriff) Curtis. They had four children: Whitney A., Walter M., Marjorie L. and Ellen J. Curtis. Curtis began his photography business in Seattle as a Partner in the firm of Curtis and Romans, 1901. He started his own company, Asahel Curtis Photo Company, in 1909. He was the former Chairman of the Rainier National Park Advisory Board and a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Seattle Chamber of Commerce. He also belonged to the Rotary Club, American Alpine Club and was a Mason. He was a declared Republican in 1939. He maintained his office at #625 Colman Building, Seattle, in 1939.
