Southeast corner of Occidental Avenue South and Main Street.

Pioneer white families gathered in this garrison, erected by 02/15/1856, in case of Indian attack. It was located on the southeast corner of Main Street and Occidental Avenue South (2nd Avenue South). A north garrison, built in 10/1855, was located at Front Street (1st Avenue) and Cherry Street. Sailors and Marines from the U.S.S. Decatur defended the South Block fortress in case of attack.

This was a two-floor log cabin, surrounded by a palisade of half-squared logs, produced at David Denny's Sawmill. Walls of the second story cantilevered out over the first and had portals through which rifles could be fired. A gable roof covered the garrison.

Demolished.
