This building replaced a previous lodge that burned in the 07/04/1889 Ellensburg, WA, Fire that leveled 10 square blocks and 200 residence. The year 1889, the first year of WA statehood, proved catastrophic for fires in the state, with serious blazes in Cheney (04/18/1889), Seattle (06/06/1889), Ellensburg (07/04/1889) and Spokane (08/04/1889). This rash of fires drew many architects to WA who hoped to gain commissions for new buildings.
