Los Angeles architect Frank O. Gehry remodeled this highly visible, 7-story warehouse in association with Schwartz/Silver Architects, Incorporated, of Boston, MA. Naomi Miller and Keith Morgan, in their book, Boston Architecture, 1975-1990, noted of the Tower Records Building: "Frank Gehry made his debut in Boston with a variation on his most popular theme--a building within a building. An old concrete-frame and buff brick warehouse with bas-relief patterns on lintels has been restructured with an additional story formed by diagonal metal struts projecting upwards from the original roofline." (See Naomi Miller and Keith Morgan, Boston Architecture, 1975-1990, (Munich: Prestel Verlag, 1990), p. 156-157 The renovated warehouse overlooked the Massachusetts Turnpike and anchored the western end of Newbury Street.
