This housing development's land was originally part of the United States Army Air Corps' March Field (created in 1918) and later used as Camp William G. Haan between 1940-1946. The sub-division was named for General Henry H. "Hap" Arnold (1886–1950), the only U.S. officer decorated as a five-star General in the Army and Air Force.
