Structure Type: built works - dwellings - houses - tract houses

Phases I and II of the Islandia Residential Development occurred from 1966-1969; San Francisco architecture firm Fisher-Friedman designed this tract on Bay Farm Island. The Guide to Architecture in San Francisco and Northern California wrote of Islandia in 1985: "This somewhat monotonous development represents a step forward in design and a step backward in planning for location. It brings to the town of Alameda an unwelcome population increase which threatens to overextend municipal resources." (See David Gebhard, Robert Winter and Eric Sandweiss, "A Guide to Architecture in San Francisco and Northern California," [Salt Lake City, UT: Gibbs M. Smith Incorporated, 1985], p. 318.)
