Spokane architecture firm Preusse and Zittel, one of the leading practitioners in the city c. 1900, designed this administrative office building in the Richardsonian Romanesque Style. Founded in 1887, the Administration Building was the largest and most important building on the Jesuit Gonzaga College Campus in its early days. In 2010, this capacious building accommodated various functions; offices for Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, Public Relations and Student Life. The Harry and Colleen Magnuson Theatre was located at the eastern end of the Administration Building. The University Chapel also was located here.

Sally Woodbridge and Roger Montgomery indicated a date of 1903-1905 for the Gonzaga College Administration Building in their guidebook, "A Guide to Architecture in Washington State An Environmental Perspective," (Seattle: University of Washington Press, 1980), p. 415. An inscription on the rusticated stone surrounding the front entrance stated "Erected 1898."
