The father of golf in the West, Alexander Baillie (1859-1949), lived in this elaborate house with his wife. In 1894, Baillie, along with 15 colleagues, founded the first golf course west of the Mississippi River (the first Tacoma Country and Golf Club location). The house originally had elaborate gardens surrounding it and was located close to the Tacoma Golf and Country Club's second home on American Lake in Lakewood, WA.
