Building History
The Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church served as the catalytic force in the construction of Wesley Gardens, a retirement complex for which planning began at a Methodist conference in 1943. By 1960, the Wesley Gardens complex consisted of 217 highrise apartment units and 37 cottages. The cottages were completed first (the initial one finished in 1949), and between 1954 and 1957 the north and south wings of Wesley Gardens' high-rise facilty were erected. This highrise also included a two-story infirmary. In 1961, a six-story highrise called "Wesley Terrace" was erected on land adjacent to Wesley Gardens. (See Wesley Choice.org, "Our History," accessed 07/22/2025.)
In 1986, the Wesley View, a collection of 15 townhouses, was added to the Wesley Gardens site. A Wesley Homes Hospice opened in 2017. (See Wesley Choice.org, "Our History," accessed 07/22/2025.)
