Caudill Rowlett Scott, Architects, collaborated with Geiger Berger Associates, Engineers, on the design of this planned sports/events center covered by a fabric roof. (Geiger Berger developed a specialty working with tensile, fabric structures at the time.) This plan called for a Teflon-covered dome to cover a 6,000-person sports/events center and a vinyl-covered covering to shelter a swimming pool. The pool cover was designed to be removed during summer months. Changing rooms and showers were to be built on a lower level. The university chose to commission fabric structures for several reasons: low cost, unstable soil conditions, low-rise surrounding buildings and seismic safety.
