Building History
The Seattle-based shoe store, Nordstrom Incorporated, purchased the Best Apparel stores on 08/06/1963. They maintained the Best Apparel name for about less than three years, before opening a new Downtown Portland store, "Nordstrom Best" in 01/1966. Best Apparel operated at the Lloyd Center until about 1967, when its name was also changed to "Nordstrom Best," a store that sold men's, women's and children's clothing as well as shoes. Nordstrom Best expanded rapidly in Pacific Northwest and became a joint-stock company by 07/29/1971. Duing this period of rapid expansion, the store became known as "Nordstrom, Incorporated," dropping the Best name in 1973. (See Zippia.com, "Nordstrom Company History Timeline," accessed 04/17/2024.)
