The brothers Joseph T. and Franklin Grace purchased the Metzger Brewery at Second and Wilson Streets in 1897. In the 1937, Joseph T. Grace and his nephews purchased the Rio Brewery in Los Angeles.

Like a great many breweries in the US, the Grace Brothers' Santa Rosa facility was switched over to the manufacture of soft drinks, ice, and ice cream during Prohibition, December 1918-1933.

Grace Brothers operations in Santa Rosa and Los Angeles were sold to the Maier Brewing Company of Los Angeles in 1966.
