The J.H. Ballinger House was done in the Mediterranean Revival Style; it covered a sloping site and had an extensive view to the west of the Olympic Range and Puget Sound. Plaster-faced fences originally divided up portions of the property, creating an auto court, terrace (off a sun room) and other terraced spaces. A separate, two-floor building housed the garage, and probably had chauffeur's (or other servant's) quarters upstairs. The house and garage were sheltered by hipped roofs covered in Spanish tile.
