South Village, $38 million housing project, was intended to replace the demolished Courson and Muzzall Hall towers which contained 477 student beds. South Village was the first new residence facility at Central Washington since the construction of Courson and Muzzall Halls in 1966. Construction began in the Spring of 2008 and was scheduled for completion by Fall 2009.
Student Village South was to contain two 4-story apartment-style dormitory buildings, with an independent boiler building dedicated for the dorm's heating and cooling. Efforts were made to make the development as green as possible; local materials were utilized when possible, HVAC systems were designed to exceed current codes, new "smart" technologies were added to conserve lighting, low-flow toilets were used, and a storm water collection unit was included.
