Joseph Medill (04/06/1823 – 03/16/1899), the former Mayor of Chicago, IL, and the Editor of the Chicago Tribune, occupied the house for a brief time before his death. Medill, like many wealthy Chicagoans, came out to the Pasadena area to escape the Midwest ferocious winters. He also came to the area to help his wife recover from a lung ailment that eventually killed her. Besides a residence for Cameron and Medill, Altadena's First Woman's Circle also used this house as a meeting place.
