Nelse Mortenson Construction Company gained a $3.5 million contract in 06/1950 to build 400 new houses for military personnel working on the Moses Lake Air Force Base. Mortenson also signed an agreement stating that it would rent and maintain the housing for a period of 50 years thereafter. Each house was to average around $9,000 in cost with construction funding being supplied by the recently passed Wherry Act.
