The theatre was named for David Belasco (07/25/1853 – 05/14/1931) a well-known playwright and theatre promoter who operated performance spaces in New York, NY, Los Angeles, CA, and Washington, DC.
The Belasco had a large blocky character, the front facade featuring a colonnade of classical columns set behind a balustrade above the main entry. Another entry on the side featured tall pilasters and a series of iron fire escapes. A thick classical cornice trimmed an attic story.
