This house served as the makeshift headquarters of the Wells Fargo Nevada National Bank following the city's devastation in the San Francisco Earthquake of 04/18/1906. Bank President, Isaias W. Hellman's daughter and son-in-law lived at this address and they ceded the dwelling to him to run this large new bank. (The Wells Fargo Nevada National Bank had been formed in 1905 when Hellman merged the Nevada National Bank, of which he was the President, with the Wells Fargo Bank.)
