Before 1947, King County operated three public sanitoria, Firland, Morningside and Meadows. These were consolidated in 1947 into a former Naval hospital at 15th Ave NE and NE 150th Street at that time. Tuberculosis was becoming less of a scourge c. 1950, with the development of antibiotics that could kill tuberculosis bacilli.
