Architect J.S. White designed this residence for the Snohomish lumberman, E.H. Elwell. This two-story Italianate house was built in 1888, and was at one time a single dwelling. What was a kitchen used in the summertime and extra bedrooms comprised the wing that was later separated. The house took its popular name from later owners, Stanley and Ruth Dubuque; Stanley Dubuque served as the Snohomish County Auditor. The Dubuques bought the house from Ruth Brodigan, Ruth Dubuque's mother, in c. 1940, and lived there until his death in 2002.

A tour of this house was staged by the Snohomish Historical Society on Sunday, 09/20/2009, 12:00-5:00 PM.

Architect N.P. Hansen supervised the separation of the Dubuque House into two separate dwellings in 1913. His family lived in the second house from c. 1913-1940. Owners Stanley and Ruth Dubuque occupied the house from c. 1940-1984; they remodeled the interior in the 1970s. Owner Lori Sterley bought the Dubuque House in 2003, and with the help of her father, again renovated the 2,000-square-foot dwelling.
