The family of John Ross, an early settler in the area that became the Fremont Neighborhood in Seattle, WA, helped to found this school in 1883. The Seattle Public School District annexed the Ross School #1 in 1891, and it continued to serve as an educational facility until 12/1902. The district leased the space out as a dress shop in 1903, and sold it by 03/22/1916. A later owner moved the two-room, wood-frame building to a new location from its original 1.16-acre site. The Ross School #2, built in 1903, subsequently occupied this 1.16 acre lot.
