Overview

The Gordon Hardware Company. Store and Office Building #1 was located at 927 Front Street (later 1st Avenue), at Cherry Street. (See Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1888, p. 92.)

Building History

The Seattle architectural firm of Boone and Meeker designed the Gordon Hardware Store #1 in Seattle, WA. William E. Boone, (1830-1921), was likely the designer, as George Cook Meeker, (1849-1919), worked primarily in the Bay Area during the 1880s.

F.C. Burns served as President of the Gordon Hardware Company in 1888, and was assisted by G.B. Adair, Treasurer and Manager, and F.H. Hardwick, Secretary. Gordon Hardware was a jobber of hardware, cutlery, guns and sporting goods at 927 Front Street. (See Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1888, p. 92.)

It is likely that Front Street was renumbered between 1888 and 1889 as the address for the Gordon Hardware Company in the latter year was 627-629 Front Street. Interestingly, the Seattle Hardware Company had its store next door at 625 Front in 1889. (See R.L. Polk and Company's Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1889, p. 532.)

Demolition

The Gordon Hardware Store #1 was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1889.
