Nurseryman Edwin A. "Ned" Wells (1932-2018) opened his Wells Medina Nursery in Medina, WA, in 04/1971. An article announcing the nursery's imminent opening appeared in the Seattle Times in its Sunday edition of 04/01/1971. It stated: "Construction of a $93,000 nursery complex of three buildings in Medina has been completed for Edwin A. Wells, owner of the Wells-Medina Nursery. It will be open to the public this month. Daniel Streissguth and Gene Zema, architect, [sic] designed the single-level structures of dark-stained cedar and fir, a post and beam modular construction with shingled roofs and exposed aggregate floors and walkways. Wood & Associates are the mechanical engineers, Martenson & Associates, electrical engineers, and Warner and Sons, general contractor. The structures are an office and sales building, including a horticultural library that will be open to the public; storage and work building and a lattice house of 4,900 quare feet. Total square footage is 8,232 located on 3 1/2 acres at 8300 N.E. 24th Street, Bellevue." (See "Nursery to Open," Seattle Times, 04/04/1971, p. E4.)
