The Larkin was named a National Historic Landmark in 1970. This was the highest designation of historic importance bestowed by the National Parks Service. (This was in distinction to a building simply being placed on the National Register of Historic Places.) The Larking House was also part of the Monterey Old Town National Historic District, that included many of the Spanish/Early American adobe buildings in the Old Town area. This area was also a California State Historic Park. Tel: (831) 649-7118 (2011).
