Peoples Department Store was located on the SE corner of South 11th Street and Pacific Avenue.

Mervyn's, a Hayward, CA-based retailer, bought The Peoples Department Store chain in 1983, and closed this Downtown Tacoma, WA, branch later that year. Mervyn's, itself, went into bankruptcy on 10/17/2008. In 2007, it closed all 12 of its WA and OR locations.
