Minkler owned a lumber mill and served as a local politician in the City of Lyman, WA. His house was the largest in town in 1891.

The Minkler House has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the only such site in Lyman, WA.

In 07/2008, Skagit County paid $393,000 for the Minkler House for the City of Lyman, which hoped to convert it for use as its City Hall. As of 07/2009, the Lyman City Government could not raise the needed cash, $407,737, to pay the county. It needed to raise it by 07/27/2009 or the city would need to ask the county for an extension.
