Northam, in 08/1895, lived in the town of La Mirada, and worked as manager of the Stearns Rancho. At that time, he was prosperous enough to stay in Los Angeles at the pricey Hotel Nadeau. He financed at least two, small, brick, presumably commercial buildings in Los Angeles, one on North Main Street at Bruno Street (1899) and the other at 1508-1512 West 7th Street (1902).
