Los Angeles County voters passed a library bond issue in 1957 that enabled a replacement library for the Watts Neighborhood to move forward. By 1960, this modern library replaced the original 1914 Carnegie-financed facility. In 1996, a third public library serving Watts was completed, superceding the 1960 one.
