Jackson was the owner of the Northwestern Steamship Company (also known as the Washington Steamship Company). On May 18, 1894, Jackson bought the paddle-wheel steamer, Idaho, and added it to his fleet making runs between Port Townsend and Seattle, WA.

The Jackson House was a timber-frame, gable-front house covered in horizontal clapboard siding. A wraparound front porch covered the front entry.
