Building History

The All Saints Parish congregation formed in 1917. Its first meeting occurred on 12/15/1917 at a land company's offices, the Laurelhurst Company. Reverend William B. Cronin presided over this assemblage. A lightning-fast drive for a parish church resulted in the selection of the firm of Jacobberger and Smith, Architects, of Portland, OR, who produced a traditional Gothic design. As noted in parish historian Carolyn Wharton: "Portland architect Joseph Jacobberger drew up plans for the first church, a chapel of Tudor Gothic design, and on January 20, 1918, the plant, church, and rectory--which combined cost $12,132.45--were dedicated by the Archbishop." If these dates are accurate, the parish was formed in 12/1917 and the church finished in 01/1918, an incredibly rapid building cycle.
