This courthouse replaced a makeshift one fashioned in 1852; built by Mahlon Harlow and H.W. Hammitt, it had two stories containing offices and a courtroom. It cost $8,500 to erect. It first stood at 8th Street and Oak Street, but was later moved to 7th Street and Oak Street and converted into the first public Eugene High School.
