This courthouse replaced a previous one built in 1899; also demolished to make room for this facility were an old post office, jail, public market and the Osburn Hotel. This new courthouse cost $2,146,350 to erect. The Eugene-based architectural firm of Wilmsen and Endicott designed this fourth courthouse.
Lane County chose to build a modern three-story building for its courthouse, with a flat roof and a vertical latticework structure facing its exterior.
