In May 1917, the Farmers and Merchants Bank of Stockton, CA, announced that it would double its capital stock offering from $500,000 to $1,000,000 in 06/1917. (See "In Los Angeles: Stockton, Cal., Bank to Double Capital," Financier New York, vol. CIX, 05/05/1917, p. 1192.) This money-raising initiative was offered contemporaneously with the construction of the George Kelham's new bank.
