Plans for this hospital occurred as far back as 1956, when it established a fund-raising office at 221 Broadway, Laguna Beach, CA. By 08/1956, $678,192 had been collected from federal and state sources, but construction awaited a public contribution of $400,000. At this time, the hospital had also obtained a 22-acre parcel on which to build in South Laguna Beach, donated by the Irvine Foundation.
