Following the destruction of Recreation Park Baseball Stadium #1 in San Francisco, CA, during the San Francisco Earthquake and Fire of April 18, 1906, the Recreation Park Baseball Stadium #2 was erected in 1907 to house two Pacific Coast League franchises, the San Francisco Seals and the Oakland Oaks. The Seals played here from 1907-1913 and 1915-1931; the Oaks played in the park between 1907-1913 and sporadically during the 1920s. (Additionally, when the Mission Reds were moved to San Francisco in 1926, they played their games in this park until 1931.) Recreation Park #2 was a wooden structure, with two decks, the first covered, the second largely uncovered, and outfield bleachers. A new emphasis on the fire safety occurred in San Francisco after a serious 21 alarm fire occurred at the Ewing Field ballpark on June 5, 1926, damaging 40 houses and conjuring up memories of the Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906. This fire, caused by a careless smoker, prompted city officials to push for a new fireproof stadium. This venue was Seals Stadium, erected between 1929-1931, composed of a reinforced concrete structure.
Demolished.
