The Tacoma Public School System named this high school for Henry Foss, a Stanford University graduate, who retired from the U.S. Navy as a Rear Admiral, and served as a Washington State Senator, Commissioner for the Port of Tacoma, and a Director of Pacific National Bank of Washington. His parents, Norwegian immigrants, established a tugboat business well-known in Puget Sound.
