Proposed in 1990, the construction of these two large underground storage tanks, was completed after 2000. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was forced by the California State Department of Health Services to improve the water quality of the Hollywood Reservoir; burying water tanks protected them from airborne particulants and from hillside drainage.
